Take a Few Deep Breaths

One great way to keep away the jitters before you take the stage is taking a few deep breaths. Breathing in slowly and deeply can lower your heart rate and increase the intake of oxygen. Because of that, you’ll feel your muscles relax, and your blood pressure will stabilize. After a few deep breaths, you’ll feel confident in your shoes when you move your feet.

Focus Your Attention on Other Things

Dancing is a very precise form of creative expression. Each step has a particular significance to it, which is why you may feel a rather strong urge to be perfect. Because of that, it can feel overwhelming trying to recall everything before you begin dancing. That is why you must try to focus your attention on something else. You could think about what you’re going to do after your performance – perhaps you’ll grab a drink with a friend, or you may want to relax at home with a pizza all to yourself.

Instead, you must only focus on the music and move your body to its rhythm. Don’t think of this as a performance but as an opportunity for you to enjoy and express yourself. If you’re unable to remember a particular step – though that is unlikely – just improvise. Replace your forgotten memory with a new one. The odds are that no one will pick up on it if you do it with grace and style.
